Acute pain is the type of pain where the source of the problem comes on suddenly, intensely, and generally goes away when the injury is healed or in the healing process. For example, things like cuts, broken bones, and even childbirth would all be examples of acute pain. Acute pain is temporary, and usually lasts less than six months.
Chronic pain, on the other hand, is characterized as lasting for longer than six months. Chronic pain can be frustrating to people because there isn’t always an easily determinable source and the pain can stick around long after an injury is healed. Chronic pain examples are things like arthritis, headaches, back pain, nerve issues, and even headaches.
